The Aebeling
Although a seriously clichéd millionaire playboy, Major Connor MacLeod is nonetheless no ordinary forty-year-old millionaire playboy. A highly decorated army officer, a world champion sportsman, and a scholar with degrees in science, engineering, and classics, he has lived his twenty years of public life at full throttle. Frenemies typically describe him as arrogant, reckless, irresponsible and positively suicidal, because he has proven, to date, to be the proverbial unstoppable force. But all good things must come to an end.Conn has “inherited” a method of passing from this dimension to another; one that he has every reason to believe is a lot like but is most definitely not 9th Century Europe. When he takes that final step and enters the portal into this new world, will he have finally bitten off more than he can chew?
After Major Conn MacLeod (Ret.) “inherited” a method of passing from one dimension (21st Century Earth) to another (not 9th Century Earth but something similar), he found himself in a continent called Meshech, and immersed in an age old squabble between tribes.Just six years later, he is conceivably the wealthiest man alive; master of numerous demesnes, farmer, industrialist and merchant – and soon to be the father of thirteen children.Despite his obvious success, and not being one inclined to rest on his laurels, he is risking it all by intervening in a war that is not of his making, and is leading his small but well-drilled army again huge odds. His opponents are aided by the Ancuman, powerful warriors from a distant continent, who are guided by their mad Goddess in their “fiendish” desire to conquer Meshech and enslave everyone. They and their Goddess are starting to take his constant interfering extremely poorly; having failed in an assassination attempt once already. But what happens when you come face to face with an immortal Goddess that hates you?Thankfully, he has his slave girl, the beautiful but deadly Priecuman warrior Halla, to keep him diverted and the knowledgable sage, Derryth of the Twacuman, to keep him alive. With a lopsided war to fight, amorous women to placate, and an irate Goddess to elude – just in case – what could possibly go wrong?

Conn MacLeod, a highly decorated British Army Major has “inherited” a method of passing from his dimension (21st Century Earth) to another; one that is a lot like but definitely isn’t, 9th Century Europe. After thirty years of planning and preparation for the “trip”, it doesn’t take him long to utilize his extensive knowledge and extraordinary skills – and the not insignificant amount of gold that he takes with him – to reshape the world that he had just “invaded” into one of his own making.Well, wouldn’t you? However, he starts to have a niggling feeling that, perhaps, it’s not just luck but something more “sinister” behind him being in Meshech, and he is “here” for a greater purpose than his own enjoyment. That purpose is not disclosed to him after he expels the Ancuman from Meshech and returns that continent to peace, so perhaps the answer is not in Meshech but in Sytha, a continent a lifetime away, and where the Casere once ruled. With little alternative, he prepares an armada of ships to visit the “old world”, in true Conn MacLeod style. If nothing else, there are a lot of Ancuman wiga out there that he can annoy, more women to seduce and more money to make. Given everything he has a achieved so far, he thought it should be easy. That was his first mistake, and it went downhill from there.

Connor MacLeod, the ex-Major in the British army who transported himself to a different dimension, has, after 20 years, carved out an empire; and he believes, completed his “mission”. He has successfully brought all know lands under his direct or indirect control. No mean achievement in itself. His dreams of a peaceful retirement are shattered when he learns that he has, in fact, an immortal body, but only a normal brain. If he stays, he will go mad, eventually, even if his body will not die. He can avoid that fate in two ways – either become one of them – a Gyden – and become the very thing that he has opposed.Alternatively, he can go to back to his own “dimension”. With only the one real choice on offer and only a moment to choose, Conn decides to return. He also takes Halla with him because her life is irrevocably bound to his. They soon discover that what was an impossible decision quickly becomes really complicated when Asherah suddenly appears on Earth and discloses that his presence there could fundamentally damage the delicate balance of that dimension, and now wants him to leave, again.Assuring him that his immortality is no longer an issue, she offers to send them “home”. Thinking that “home” was Meshech, they agree, but soon find that Meshech is not where Asherah, mother and most powerful of all the Gyden, actually sends them, and the purpose of her actions, if there are any, are not easy to uncover. She is also, surprisingly, not around to ask.
Conn MacLeod, otherwise known as Conn il Taransay, or Conn de Sandray, has been messing in the politics of his new homeland. Finally ensconced into his new demesne of Denma, he has put into play actions that will probably bring the entire continent into warfare and cause the death of thousands. Or, it could prevent the death of tens of thousands and the end of the world as they know it. A moment of hesitation or the flip of a coin could determine the outcome. With so much at stake, he is asking for the impossible - but, impossible is just an opinion.
